Dentures and Partial Dentures
Full and Partial Dentures
Missing one or more teeth can be tasking on you, particularly when it comes to carrying out simple tasks such as chewing food, talking or even smiling. Missing teeth put pressure on the remaining healthy ones. This can accelerate the wear and tear causing more damage to your teeth at an even faster rate.
Dentures serve as a quick, easy and effective solution to missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two types of dentures; complete and partial dentures. A complete denture dental procedure is used to replace all the teeth in an arch, while partial dentures only replace the missing teeth, while preserving the healthy teeth.
Traditional or Implant-Supported Prosthesis
Sunny Isles dentist, Dr. George, offers two different types of dentures namely; traditional removable dentures and fixed implant supported dentures. The traditional removable dentures are usually made from durable acrylic material, or a combination of acrylic and metal. The dentures are held into place in the patient’s mouth using suction against the oral tissues surrounding the teeth. The dentures then span around the healthy oral roof tissues and teeth within the mouth.
Unlike the removable traditional dentures that can you can take out at your own free will, implant supported dentures stay in place permanently. These dentures are mounted directly onto the same implant roots. This leaves some room in the roof of the mouth, since there is no suction that is used to hold the dentures in place. These dentures are made out of acrylic and snap easily into the abutments giving them a characteristic U shape.
